iOS, Android & custom software development

Apps for the way
your customers work.

ByteTalk builds iOS and Android apps, web applications, and custom software. We help you shape the experience, connect your existing systems, and plan a release people can use.

The work

The product and the work behind it.

Bring an early idea, a process your team wants to improve, or an app that needs attention. We agree on the scope around your users, current software, and the first result you need.

A connected productWhat people use. What makes it work.

In their hands

Mobile apps

Customer and internal apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android. We work through the main user journeys, device requirements, and the services the app needs before choosing the approach.

In the browser

Web products and internal tools

Browser-based software for customers or your team. This can include an account area, a workflow tool, or a product interface that works across screen sizes.

Behind the experience

APIs and integrations

Connections between your app, business tools, and data. We consider permissions, failure handling, and the people who will maintain those connections alongside the interface.

Before the build

Choose the right first release.

A useful brief explains who will use the product and what they need to accomplish. You can leave the technology choices open while we work through these decisions.

Mobile app or web app?

Start with how customers will use it. Device features, offline use, distribution, and how often someone returns can influence the choice. A web app may suit a task people need to open from a link; a mobile app may suit a recurring experience that needs closer device integration.

New build or improve what exists?

We first look at the current product, its constraints, and the changes you need. An integration or a focused improvement may solve the problem. A larger rebuild needs a reason tied to the product and the team maintaining it.

What belongs in version one?

Identify the smallest complete journey that lets someone do the main task. Separate what the first release needs from what can wait, and include the work behind the screen: access, data, support, and deployment.

Our approach

Work through it with us.

You work with ByteTalk’s founder, Alan Shiflett. We agree on the scope, fee, and timeline before work begins.

Meet Alan
  1. Define the experience

We discuss the people using the product, map their main task, and review the systems involved. Depending on the scope, we may use flows or a prototype to settle the experience before the build.

  2. Build and review

We develop the agreed features and integrations, with opportunities to review working software. We test important user journeys and the failure cases that affect them.

  3. Prepare the release

We work through deployment or store submission requirements and agree who will handle accounts, ongoing maintenance, and support. Those responsibilities belong in the plan before launch.

A few useful details

Before we start.

Can you build for both iOS and Android?

Yes. We build for both platforms. The choice between shared code and platform-specific work depends on the experience, device features, existing software, and maintenance needs. We discuss those tradeoffs before choosing the stack.

Can the app connect to the tools we already use?

We can assess the APIs, permissions, and data available in those tools. Integration scope depends on what each system supports, so we check access and limitations before committing to an approach.

Do we need designs or a detailed specification first?

No. Tell us who the app is for and what you want them to do. Examples of the current process or an existing product help us discuss the scope; you do not need to choose a framework or write a technical specification.

How do you estimate the work?

We work through the main features, integrations, platforms, and uncertainties with you. We agree on scope, fee, and timeline before work begins, and discuss changes if the requirements change.

Tell us about the app you have in mind.

Start with who it is for, what they need to do, and anything you have built so far.
